How can I stand out with my content
Content creation something a lot of entrepreneurs struggle with. By now most entrepreneurs have realized that creating content is a huge part of their marketing and customer attraction strategy. But they also realize that EVERYONE out there is creating content, so how do you stand out from it all?
Many people out there are simply regurgitating info that already exists elsewhere. This strategy isn’t very effective because you are not going to stand out by sharing the same ideas that have already been shared hundreds of times
How do we fall into this trap? It’s because we are not sure what to say or how to create content or how to exist on social media, so we go looking for ideas from others. This is totally legit and fine, you can learn a lot from others and get inspired from what they have to say. But, learn from them, don’t steal from them. See what works for them then think about how you can approach content creation or put your own spin on it.
Also, there are 2 types of content pieces out there that some people are relying way too heavily on and they are absolutely doing you no favours – and that is sharing “quotes” and sharing random statistics.
Either of these can be fine if they are used in context or in moderations, but that don’t build a very solid foundation for your online presence.
For example, if you come across a stat that says that 80% of content consumed online is video – well that’s a great indication what video is important and maybe you can help your audience by sharing more video related content.
What have you learned to be true in your experience?
Humans relate to stories. However, many people are creating content in silos and out of context. The best way to make your content stand out is to share ideas, lessons, and strategies that you absolutely know and have learned through experience. This is the #1 thing that is going to make your content more effective and more unique. No one shares your story or your experiences.
Another things that happens when you share your content this way is you are taking a stand for what you know in your heart to be true, and you are removing the wishy washiness that makes most content out there garbage.
Think about it this way. If you are someone who helps people overcome eating disorders, and you’ve been there, then you can say with absolute certainty “this is what I did to overcome my challenges”. You’re not going to say you could do this or you could do that. Some people may disagree with you and think that some ways are better, but you’ve lived that experience and know it works, and you are drawing a line in the sand right there, which helps you get super clear on your messaging and makes your content stand out, because its not generic like a lot of the stuff out there.
Use your own voice
There is an endless amount of good ideas out there, but in your area of expertise, there are probably certain truths that exist, meaning that you share an opinion or perspective with other people out there.
I think this is where a lot of people get stuck. They think that just because someone else out there has already talked about this, or is an expert in it, that there isn’t room for anyone else
But, your content becomes unique because it’s from you. It’s important to make sure that you are creating your content in your own voice, sharing your stories, and infusing your personality. Because if I just sit here and spit out ways to fill your social media calendar, well, it’s been done, but to make it my own and share it in my own voice, with my own examples, and in my own way, it gives it more personality.
Because here’s the thing. Some people like some people more than others. There are some famous and successful people out there that are not like by everyone. Like Gary V: not everyone’s cup of tea. So even if someone comes along and shares similar ideas in their own voice, they will attract different people.
Let your personality shine. Don’t try to be someone else and share your content in your own words. This will all help it stand out.
